Loans and Financing |
The current situation:
The Bad News
The following was a note from our friend at MDO Mortgage to a client (this client has an 800+ credit score by the way)......
I wish I had better news. Recently, pretty much every bank in Costa Rica stopped lending for the time being to non-residents. There are currently 1 or 2 banks that are still lending, but it is very very restrictive and the interest rates are around 13%. So to be honest, there is not much we can do for you at this moment.
I hope things pick up soon, but I don’t forsee things changing much in the short term.
The Good News!
Owner Financing
In recent months, we have had many more owners offering to
carry a mortgage on their properties. If you find a property you like,
please ask us to ask the owner about financing.
Bank & Other Financing
There are two government banks here. They are BCR (Banco
de Costa Rica) and BNCR (Banco Nacional). If you have
an active Costa Rican corporation which has an active account in good standing of over two years in one of these banks, they might consider financing property for you. However, BNCR will
not even let a non-resident open an account anymore so chances with
these two are slim.
